Last Meeting of Fall 2007 semester!

Hello all! Just wanted to inform you of our next CHILD meeting which will be held on Monday, November 26, 2007 at 7 p.m. in Killian 109 as usual. Please, if at all possible we'd like to see you at our last meeting of the semester! We'll be discussing plans for next semester and thinking about what we can do to recruit new members in the future. If we don't recruit new members, CHILD will fold as a club. The question is, "Do we really want that to happen?" Personally, I don't want it to. So, if you agree, please show up!

Upcoming News & Events

Hi everyone! Just another update - we made $42.86 in donations from what we had left over from the bake sale! We'll use this money to purchase materials for the event we're sponsoring, "Who's Smarter than a 5th grader?" near the end of November and also to order pizza for our next meeting. With that our next meeting will be Monday, November 12 at 7 p.m. in Killian 109. During this meeting, we'll be getting our display board ready for "Who's Smarter than a 5th grader?", and also talking and preparing to do a puppet show at a local elementary school. Bake Sale

Just wanted to thank everyone who made/brought stuff for the bake sale on Monday! It was a success even with the rainy conditions. We made $118.04 and still have more coming in from donations as I'm told. Our next meeting will be Monday, November 12 at 7 p.m. in Killian 109.

October 8 Meeting

Hey Everyone! We confirmed that we will meet at Colima's for dinner on October 18th; however, the time has changed from 7:00 to 7:30. We would love for all members to attend, because this will be a great chance for us to get to know each other over a relaxing meal. In addressing the needs of the bake sale, we passed around a sign-up sheets to determine who could bring what items. If you would like to bring some baked goods for us to sale on October 22 (0r if you can help work the booth any time between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM), please send this information to rrdaves1@catamount.wcu.edu . Also, we discussed joining "The Fighting Octopi" team for Relay for life. All members in attendance supported this idea. Further details will be discussed during future meetings. I hope to see everyone on the 18th!

Hey all! Please do not forget to add Concerened Helpers in Learning Development (CHILD) on Collegiatelink. This is something new that our school is trying this year. The site is - http://wcu.collegiatelink.net. Just find CHILD on there and add it and one of us officers should be able to do the rest! Thanks and have a great rest of the week!

September 24, 2007 Minutes

We got the ball rolling and have made plans to hold our first Bake Sale this year on Monday, October 22, 2007 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. under the Killian Breezeway. We would like to have at least two people for each time slot. So, if you weren't at the meeting and would like to sign up for a time, e-mail Reida and let her know which time and she will add it to her spreadsheet. Also, please e-mail Reida and let her know what you can bring to the bake sale (we did not sign up for this at the meeting).

We have set a tentative date of Thursday, October 18th to have dinner as a group. We have decided to have this at Colima's Mexican Restaurant at 7 p.m. If you are able to make it that would be wonderful! This will be a great way to get to know everyone better and build community!!!

Stephanie Doig has graciously volunteered herself to work on our bulletin board! Thanks!

Finally, we talked about getting some type of puppet show or game night type of deal together for a local elementary schools after school program. We are looking into getting that arranged at Cullowhee Valley or Fairview (since they are the 2 closest to campus).

Fall 2007

Hello everybody! Hope all is going well with each one of you and that you are having a fantastic summer! CHILD should be starting back up this fall during the second or third week of classes. March 19 meeting notes

Hello everyone! As you know our t-shirts came in this week and we distributed them at last nights meeting. Below are the things that were discussed at the meeting.

-We started off discussing a program that Books-a-million has a program in which it would donate some of its funds to us, something that sounded like a good idea
-The Education Coalition would like to know if we will be helping them in the fall. If you need any information about them, please contact me
-It was brought up that we will probably start having an icebreaker before each meeting to help the meetings go a bit smoother, so bring a friend!
-Next Meeting: 4-2-07 at 7pm in Killian 127 (we have made that the designated meeting place for all future meetings, if we have to meet somewhere else then a sign will be posted on the door.) Our next meeting will also be posted through MyCat
-Our next sale will either be a sucker sale or a bake sale, for the sucker sale it will be $120.00 for two bags
-Our t-shirts came in, contact Courtney for information if you have any interested people.


**Please don't forget about our next meeting!! We'd love for you to be there. Bring a friend because in order to become a better organization we must have more interest and members! Next meeting be prepared for something fun and exciting! :)

T-shirts have been ordered!!

Our t-shirts have finally been ordered! Courtney took it to the place in Asheville where we are getting them from. We ordered 80 shirts instead of 100 because we didn't think that we would get them all sold considering its winding down to the end of the semester. So, we have about 12 of each size small to x-large extra for others to buy if they want them. If there are any questions, once again please feel free to contact any officer!

Just a few things to know.....

Hello everyone! Here's the first post for the New Year 2007! It's been a while so let's see how this thing is going to work :)

A few updates.....
*The t-shirt orders didn't go out this past Friday. Courtney had some car trouble and wasn't able to make it to Asheville, but the orders WILL go out this week. No worries, we WILL get the shirts by the end of the semester.
*Britney has informed me that we have books ordered. The lady that she talked to isn't able to get us the deal we first had set but we are getting 80 books for $100. If we don't have the money at the time to pay for all of these books, don't worry, the lady is going to give them to the school she is working at.
